South In Nashville Presents: The Magic of Malibu!

The keys to success here at South Inc Nashville involve us combining friends, FUN and travel into our team’s normal work routine! As often as we can find an excuse for, we provide opportunities for our employees to travel coast to coast, in efforts to help them expand outside of their comfort zones. In the last month alone we’ve sent members of our Human Resources and Marketing/Sales team to Lost Angeles, CA, Raleigh, NC and Dallas, TX!

So when our client decided to run a contest for all Human Resource Managers across the country and host a weekend in Malibu, CA, we knew that our Director of HR, Alex, was a shoo-in to win! Racing against 400+ competitors in an 8 week contest, Alex exceeded all expectations set by our South Inc Nashville Management team and client (naturally because she’s hard working and competitive) and secured herself a cross country flight to Southern California, complete with 3 days of wining, dining and networking!

We sat down to interview Alex and wanted to share what helped her land her win and what she enjoyed most about her weekend! Enjoy!

Q – So, Alex, when you first heard about the contest, what were some of your immediate thoughts?

A – I just envisioned the end goal, with myself boarding my flight, getting off the plane in California, enjoying a weekend with peers and mentors and when I could visualize it, I knew I could have it.

Q – When you heard you won, what was your first reaction?!

A – I may have not so silently screamed, jumped up and down and immediately made a countdown calendar so I could see how close my reward was! The two months from winning to traveling felt like an eternity, haha!

Q – For the traveling South Inc Nashville business woman, what are some essentials you like to carry?!

A – DEFINITELY a neck pillow! With a longer flight like the one I was preparing for, I made sure to invest in some comfortable neck wear! Secondly, I recommend a great camera. Whether it’s your cell phone or a Nikon or Canon, you can never capture enough memories! Lastly, I recommend a great book or e-reader. When does one ever have time to relax and read but when on a plane, haha!

Q – Describe the weekend events that were scheduled for you!

A – First, after arriving, the 13 winners were placed in a Malibu mansion right across the beach, which was INSANE! After getting to know the other attendees from all across the country (even Canada) we went to a famous vineyard called Malibu Wines with our client’s CEO and President (talk about getting wined and dined)! That night we hung out in the mansion’s pool and hot tub (no big deal, haha) and then the following morning went to tour our client broker’s headquarters and meet some key people in the business! We wrapped up the trip in Santa Monica and soaked up the pier, the company and beautiful SoCal for as long as we could. As sad as I was to return to Nashville Sunday, I came back really refreshed and with dozens of new business connections and friends!

Q – Okay Alex, last question! If you had to pick just one thing, what was the highlight of your weekend?!

A – Being appreciated and knowing that my hard work paid off was SO worthwhile. I’ve been blessed to travel for South Inc Nashville in a group, but to be rewarded for my own individual efforts and especially on such a glamorous trip was just the cherry on top of work I already love!

Alex, we’re so grateful to you for giving us the E! True Hollywood scoop on your Malibu weekend and are incredibly proud of your recent accomplishments! All the work you put in to ensure this contest win for yourself and for South Inc Nashville is apparent and applauded. We can’t wait to see what all you accomplish with the last 5 months of the year and what other victories you bring home! Keep up the great work, stud!
